NHS Blood Pressure Check Service

Free blood pressure checks to detect and manage hypertension, reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke.

What is High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)?

Hypertension, commonly referred to as high blood pressure, is a critical condition that forces your heart to exert extra effort to circulate blood throughout your body. If left unmanaged, it can cause the arteries to become rigid and narrow, increasing the likelihood of fatty deposits accumulating and leading to heart and circulatory diseases, heart attacks, or strokes. For more detailed information on hypertension, visit the NHS website.

Why use the NHS Blood Pressure Check Service?

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) ranks among the foremost causes of early mortality in England. Hypertension, the primary risk factor for CVD, also stands as one of the top five contributors to premature death and disability nationwide. Timely identification and treatment of hypertension are crucial for lowering CVD risk through the interventions provided by your GP. It is estimated that 5.5 million individuals in England live with undiagnosed hypertension.
